Mr. David Rogers, Director of Bands
DAVID ROGERS is the Director of Bands at Walled Lake Central High School. He has held this position since 1995, taking a one year leave to pursue his conducting degree in 2001-2002. Rogers is responsible for overseeing the entire Walled Lake Central HS Band Program, which includes three concert bands, a jazz ensemble, chamber ensembles, two winter drumlines, 2 Winter Guards, and the Viking Marching Band.
Mr. Rogers received his Master of Music Wind Conducting degree from Michigan State University, where he also served as Graduate Assistant to the University Bands. Mr. Rogers is a 1995 graduate of the Michigan State University School of Music, where he received his Bachelor of Music Education Degree. His conducting teachers and mentors include Brian Doyle, Janine Gaboury-Sly, Mike Kaufman, John Madden, Greg Reed, Russ Reed, Paul Schreiber and John Whitwell.
Under Mr. Rogers' direction the Walled Lake Central Bands have flourished. The concert bands have performed with or hosted the following guest artists: the Michigan State University wind Symphony, The Grand Valley State University Wind Ensemble, Ms. Janine Gaboury-Sly, Eric Ewazen, Sandip Burman, the University of Michigan Trumpet Ensemble, and the Beaumont Brass. In 2008 the Walled Lake Central Wind Ensemble was a featured performer at the Michigan Music Conference. In 2009 the band was selected to perform at the Western Michigan University Conference on Wind and Percussion Music. In 2010 the Viking Marching Band took home the title of MCBA Flight 1 State Champion. In 2011 the band repeated as State Champions.
In 2004, David Rogers was elected to the American School Band Directors Association. He was named Walled Lake Central Teacher of the Year in 1997-1998.
Mr. Rogers and his wife Martha are the parents of two children, Jack and Kathryn.
